Brain Health

Today

The full moon woke me up again.

As I luxuriated in the brightness, I remembered that I'm recording my HealthLife.net show early this month to leave room for celebrations.

Early means now.

Yikes.

I record the show this Thursday evening.

I have three days to prepare.

2025

New year.

New theme.

Brain health.

Memory.

Get to work Susun.

I begin with cholesterol.

The January 2025 show is on cholesterol.

Not an herb.

True.

But the key ingredient for a healthy brain.

Consider:

> The brain is the most cholesterol-rich organ in the body

> The brain contains a quarter of all the cholesterol in the body.

> The majority (70–80%) of the brain's cholesterol is in the myelin

> Myelin insulates the nerves.

> Cholesterol plays a crucial role in maintaining brain health and function.

This is why I pronounce vegan "vague-un."

Without cholesterol, vitamin B12, and heme — found exclusively in animal foods — the brain goes downhill, resulting in vagueness and memory loss.

And remember these are critical nutrients for health of the mitochondria, too.

A new study just found that, if you are older (85 and up), having a total cholesterol level higher than it was in midlife is tied to a lower risk of marked cognitive decline.

"The findings challenge studies that have concluded that cholesterol is linked to higher risk for cognitive decline in older people?"

Once I've laid the ground, once I've established that without enough cholesterol, the brain can't function, then we are free to spend the rest of 2025 looking closely at herbs and foods known to support and increase memory.

My 2025 shows for HealthyLife.net will focus herbs that nourish the brain, and memory, including:

> ashwaganda

> coffee (it is an herb)

> comfrey leaf infusion (contains a special protein that restores short-term memory)

> ginkgo

> ginseng

> goji berries, blueberries

> gotu kola

> lions mane

> linden

> stinging nettle infusion

> the mint sisters = betony, sage, rosemary, lemon balm, shiso

> purslane

In order to help, these herbs need a brain with enough cholesterol.

And also on foods that promote memory, including

> olive oil

> avocado

> walnuts

> little fish

My HealthyLife.net show airs the 1st Thursday of each month, at 9am PT, 12pm ET.

It is available to enjoy all month.

Past shows are archived for a few months.

All past HealthyLife.net shows are available to mentored students through wisewomammentor.com

To work Susun.

Get your show together.

Okay.

I walk in beauty.

I speak in beauty.

My breath is a giveaway dance with the plants.

The plants speak through me.

My heart beats as one with the heartbeat of the earth.

I speak for the earth.

Green blessings surround me.

Joy in every word.
